Backcountry & off-piste days

Sainte Foy is famous for its backcountry and off-piste riding but, if you want to make the most of it, you'll need some local knowledge. We have good relationships with the local guides and speak French. Let us know as early possible if you would like to do an off-piste trip and we will organise it for you. As well as contacting guides and activity providers, we'll also provide all the transport you need. Costs for these trips vary depending on the numbers in the group and what you want to do. Typically, you can expect a day's off-piste boarding/skiing to cost around 300€, split between however many are in the group.

As well as exploring the local backcountry, it's also possible to do amazing heli skiing and boarding in nearby Italy. Check out our Sainte Foy Backcountry page for loads more information on what's possible.

Equipment Hire

The prices for hiring ski & snowboard equipment from ZigZags are listed in the table below. We'll send you an equipment hire booking form when you book with us. Send the completed form back to us and we'll pre-book your equipment hire for you and you'll get a 10% reduction on the prices shown. All prices in Euros.

Equipment repair & servicing

For all your equipment repair and servicing needs, we recommend local ski-shop ZigZags. They provide an excellent and quick service at a reasonable price. However, if you prefer to service your own gear, or you need something done at the last minute, we have a set of ski/board vices and tuning and waxing tools in a small workshop in the chalet.

Ski & snowboard lessons

We can pre-arrange all your lessons for you, either with the ESF or with one of the local independent instructors. Get in touch and let us know what you're looking for. Note that the ESF require private lessons to be booked and paid for 3 weeks in adcance. Independent instructors also get booked up quickly - it's vital to make enquiries as early as possible.

Lift passes

If you make a payment to us at least 7 days before you arrive, we'll make sure your lift pass is prepared and waiting for you when you get here to save you having to queue up and waste time on your first day of riding.

Other activities

As well as skiing, Sainte Foy has several other activities on offer. These include :

Walking
The mountain area surrounding Sainte Foy ski station offers some spectacular and very-accessible walking, which is best done on snowshoes in winter, for obvious reasons! The tourist office publishes a map of snowshoe trails. The trail maps are straight forward to follow, with all the trails starting and finishing in the ski station - several of them start a stone's throw from our chalet. However, you can get even more out of a mountain snowshoe walk by going with the local snowshow guide. He is really knowledgeable on the local plants, animals and history. But, if you're looking for something a bit more action-packed he has also created the sport of extreme snowshoeing.

Dog Sledding
Dog Sledding is great fun and really worth a go. You can either choose the highly energetic option of driving the sled yourself or you can just sit on board and cruise through the snowbound forests. One point on this one – it’s vital to book a long way in advance as it is really popular. We’d strongly recommend booking this at the same time you book with us.

Restaurant bookings

We provide meals in the chalet 6 nights a week. On our night off, we will book your choice of local restaurant for your group. See our Resort Page for more information on local restaurants.

Child care

There are two creches in the ski station. These are very popular and get booked up quickly. An alternative is to have a private nanny come to the chalet. We have a good relationship with a local nanny. Again, she gets booked up well in advance so it's best to let us know as early as possible if you would like nanny services.

We are happy for guests to come and go as they please from the chalet during the day, which means that you can easily come back early if the wee ones are starting to get a bit cold or tired.

Spa and massage

There are two spa centres in Sainte Foy resort, confusingly called Les Balcons de Sainte Foy and Les Fermes de Sainte Foy. Between them, they offer a full range of Spa services from hot tubs and saunas through to massages and body wraps. You can just walk up and pay at the door at Les Balcons, which offers a swimming pool, hot tub and sauna, but no treatments. Les Fermes offers a range of treatments, which need to be booked in advance - again, we're happy to do this for you.

Les Balcons is located at the foot of the slopes, near the ESF and the Iceberg. They are generally open from 1630 until 2030 and you can normally just walk up without having to book to use the large swimming pool and other facilities. This costs around 16€. Les Fermes is located within the large appartment block below the resort centre. They also have a pool and hot tubs, etc. but these can only be used if you are either staying in one of the appartments or are booked in for a massage or beauty treatment. The spas offer a wide range of massage and other treatments, but these get booked up very quickly, especially during the 1700 - 1900 aprés ski times. Let us know in advance if you want to book a session and we'll make the arrangements for you. Treatment costs start at around 60€. There are also local independent masseuses and physiotherapists with whom we can make arrangements to visit the chalet. This typically costs around 45€ per half hour.
